Self Reflection

1) I think i am doing relatively okay on my senior project so far.  If i were to grade myself, it would be in the P category because i have been meeting the standard for each component and research check.
2) The one thing i think i have done well on would be the service learning.  Not only have i been teaching kids the basics of piano, i have also been gaining experience on how to teach kids ranging from ages 6-10 to play an instrument at a beginners level.
3) One thing i would like to improve on would be my worth ethic so far on this project.  I have been leaving certain assignments to the last minute such as 1 or 2 days before its due.  I realize this is an inefficient way to work.

Science Fair Proposal

1) hypothesis: If a C note is played on a various stringed instruments, then the tone will vary.

2) dependent: sound frequency
independent: thickness grand piano, violin, and guitar strings
control: the grand piano, guitar, and violin

3) The connection between my science project and my EQ is the fact that knowing how the inside of the piano works and which strings play which types of sound can be useful if something goes wrong while you're performing as an accomplished pianist.  Also it can help me differentiate the frequencies between pianos and guitars, which are two very similar instruments.

4)I will perform the experiment at my service learning and take tone and frequency data on at least five instruments. I will take data using a Vernier Lab Quest and analyze the data using Logger Pro 3.8.  From there, I will research why I obtained specific results.

What I've Learned So Far

1) For the past few weeks i have being doing the independent component(private piano lessons), i was able to learn and master a famous Korean Pianist's song. The song was River Flows In You by Yiruma.

2)http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eZldmjdzhJI

3)The source that helped me accomplished this was my private piano teacher Sally Griffin, she helped corrected any misplaced notes i had played, and then added creativity and more melody to the composition.

Independent Component 1 Plan Approval

1) For my independent component, i plan to take private lesson with my teacher 2 times a week for 2hrs each lesson.
2) Since i started taking the classes in the beginning of september, i already have around 6 hours of learning done, therefore by the time of the due date, i will be done with the hours.

3) My independent study component relates to my EQ because taking lessons is one of the answers to my EQ.  To be an accomplished pianist, you have to learn how to play it first.

Defining the Essential Question

1) What is most important to being an accomplished pianist?
2)I think that an accomplished pianist is someone who can either make a living by teaching/playing the piano.
3)A few possible answers would be: an accomplished pianist can make a living by performing as a pianist or teaching at schools or privately.  Another answer would be someone who can read music theory and write it to be played on the piano for films and TV shows soundtracks.
4) My most important source has been my piano teacher, Mrs. Sally, because she has a passion for piano and has given me advice on what to do for service learning and recommended many famous pianists to study and include in my project.

Presentation Reflection

1) My first interview helped with my 5 minute presentation with content.  When i interviewed my piano teacher, she told me that knowing the 3 main ages of music which are baroque, classical, and romantic, will help me go far in this project. That's why i decided to focus my 5minute presentation on those three time periods because they represented how modern piano music was formed.

2) I think that the information i gave about pianists, artist, and musical eras stood out the most because i connected old styles of music with modern styles.

3) The most challenging thing that i had to do was my visual.  I didn't plan ahead about how to make sure my visual would be seen by the whole class.

Senior Project Presentation 1

Objective:  Students will learn how piano music has survived through the past 300 years and how relevant it is to modern day music.
Procedure: 1)Start with the question by calling out two random people: "________, do you like to listen to music?" then follow up with the question:"If so, how many modern day songs have you heard with the piano in it?"
2) Start by giving brief descriptions about Classical, Romantic, and Baroque era music styles.
3) Explain the details about certain techniques from the previous 3 styles that have lasted through time to make it to 21st century music.
4)Give 3 examples of successful artists that include piano in their music and give 2 examples of modern day pianists.
Check for Understanding:  To make sure that my audience members understand what i was talking about, i will ask the class 2 questions about facts that i have presented throughout the presentation.
Resources/Materials: I plan to bring 5 visuals, one of a classical pianist, one of a Romantic pianist, one of a Baroque pianist, and two of modern day pianists.

interview check

1) I am interviewing my piano teacher Sally Griffin.  I have decided to interview her because she has been the main reason why i have excelled so far with my piano skills.  She also has around 40 years of experience with piano, studied many genres of music, and has many connections to help me with my project.

2)Additional questions:
A)What style of music do you enjoy playing/studying?
B)At what age is it best to start learning piano?
C)What types of activities would you give students to do?

piano

question #1: what is your topic?
answer: I am doing my senior project on Piano.

question #2:Why?
answer: I decided to do my senior project on piano because it is something i love.  It has been one of my passions for the past 6 years and i would like to see how far this skill can take me throughout my senior year.  I also chose this topic because it will give me the opportunity to perform at the school talent, play at the local senior center, and intern at a music learning school.

question #3: what do you hope to accomplish after studying this topic all year?
answer:  The things i would like to accomplish while studying this topic would be to have a better understanding of what it takes to run a musical business and what it takes to become a successful pianist.
